Meet HCAM’s 5K For the Health of It! Committee Co-Chairs

This year, HealthCare Access Maryland (HCAM) will host its 2nd annual 5K For the Health of It! on Saturday, April 29th, at West Shore Park at the Inner Harbor in downtown Baltimore. This annual fundraising event brings together community members, supporters, staff, and volunteers for a fun-filled morning of walking, running, and socializing, all while supporting HCAM’s mission of making Maryland healthier.

In our 2nd year, we’re focused on making the 5K event bigger and better! We’ve brought together a 5K For the Health of It! planning committee to help us grow the event and create a meaningful and memorable event experience for all of our runners and walkers. HCAM’s 5K Committee is made up of fourteen individuals and includes staff and board members, community partners, and HCAM volunteers.

Our event committee is co-chaired by Toinette Jenkins and Joe Gonzales, who lead the committee with a passion for HCAM’s work to create healthier communities. Read below to learn more about our committee co-chairs and why they decided to join the planning committee for HCAM’s 5K For the Health of It!

Toinette N. Jenkins, M.P.A, CCIA became the First Lady of Coppin State University on May 26, 2020. Her husband, President of Coppin State University, Anthony L. Jenkins, currently serves as a HCAM board member. Toinette, an established Investigator, Criminal Intelligence Analyst and Wellness Advocate, is committed to fostering opportunities for holistic wellness, inclusion, and empowerment as well as advocating on a myriad of health and social issues. In her commitment to Coppin State University, and with other previous Universities in which she also served as First Lady, Toinette has spearheaded several empowerment health and wellness initiatives as well as worked with local, national and international nonprofit organizations whose mission it is to empower people’s lives. Toinette is beyond excited to help promote and participate again in HCAM’S annual 5K For the Health of It!.

Joe Gonzales, Regional Director – Professional Talent Solutions at Robert Half, has been involved with HCAM as a partner and supporter for many years. Joe was introduced to HCAM many years ago by two of his friends who were past board members and have since been an advocate and asset for HCAM. Joe shared the following about his connection to HCAM and excitement for this year’s 5K For the Health of It!, “I’ve always been impressed with all the work that HCAM does, and our company (Robert Half) had the opportunity to be a sponsor last year for HCAM’s inaugural 5K For the Health of It!. We had a small team that participated, and they had an incredible time and enjoyed meeting so many members of the organization. I’m proud to be part of the committee and even more so after meeting everyone that is part of it.”

We are looking forward to our event on Saturday, April 29th, and hope you can join us. Gather your friends and family to register for the race – registration is $35 through March 31st: www.runsignup.com/hcam5k.
